The 2009 VMA's: it's getting better

2007 - The over-hyped and disappointing Britney performance

2008 - Russell Brand's tomfoolery, Jordin Sparks calling all non-virgins sluts

2009 - KANYE WEST, Russell Brand again

I used to love the VMA's. I used to look forward to it coming on. In recent years, the VMA's sucked....big time. I had some hope in 07. Then this happened:

I'm feeling this, y'all! Look at the emotion on my face!

I barely watched last years.... I was over it after the 3rd performance somewhere on the paramount lot. I'm sure having the performances around a neighborhood sized lot with props and shit sounds like a great idea on paper....but it just ended up falling flat.

This year seemed like it would be pretty awesome. It did, for the most part, let's get the bad parts outta the way:

The Bad:

1. The whole hullabaloo over the MJ tribute was for nothing. I did like the Janet performance, but I truly hated everything else. And most of the tribute was 7 minutes of Madonna talking.

2. Kanye fucking West. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Kanye as an artist, but that's as far as it goes. As a man, he's rude, disrespectful, and has his head so far up his ass, there's hardly any room for Amber Rose. A little advice: grow the fuck up, Kanye! What does it take for him to see that being an asshole doesn't cut it?! It seems like he just loves being the mascot for douchebaggery and the spokesperson for niggerdom. Why did he have to ruin that girl's moment like that? I mean, i'm not saying he shouldn't have an opinion. but he let it be known at the worst time imaginable. The thing that pisses me off about the most is the fact that this is Kanye's 3rd time doing that to someone. Enough is enough!

3. I also like Russell Brand....when he's on a movie set. He should not be allowed to host a bar mitzvah, let alone a "live" award show. Just face it; the MTV crowd does not get your brand of humor (haha, get it? "brand" of humor?). I thought he was funny...at times. but I think he's hilarious in movies. Stick with the silver screen, Russell!

4. While we're on the topic of hosts, they really couldn't find anyone else? They have had some pretty great hosts in the past(Chris Rock, Jamie Foxx, The Wayans Brothers, Jack Black, shit, even Ben Stiller!). The past several years, they've just stopped trying; Diddy (reality show: yes. award show: no), Jimmy Fallon (he failed to deliver the jokes), and in frigging 06 and 07, the creative team said "Fuck it, who needs a host?" and just handed a random celebrity an envelpoe and a moonman to present.

5. What was with Wale and the houseband playing during commercial breaks? they've been running with this idea for a while now. it sucked and was uneccessary when you first did it, and it sucks and is unecessary now.

The Good:

1. NEW MOON TRAILER!!!!! WOOT! I needed silence for this moment. The movie looks fabulous, I can't wait to see it! For those who missed it:

2. The performances were decent. Pink's performance was pretty cool. The trapese thing is no easy task, and I applaud her. Plus, i <3> "Sober". (p.s. - can't wait for her "Behind the Music" this thursday!). Green Day proved that they still have what it takes to start shit. Jay-Z and A. Keys did a great job, as did Beyonce. I loved Taylor Swifts, it was cute.

3. Beyonce gave Taylor her moment to shine after Kanye shitted on her 2 hours before. You can tell that she was embarassed by his actions. She didn't have to, but she really cleaned up his mess. Kudos, Bey. Kudos.

4. The trailer for "This is It" made me want to see the movie that moment. It made me sad, however, because you could tell that the concert would have been fucking FANTASTIC. He spared no expense with the tour, and it makes you wish that he would have been able to do at least one show, so that we could have seen the finished product.

5. They were able to squeeze a little memorial for DJ AM in there.

ALl in all, it was a 50/50 effort. I hope they do better next year. Oh, and make sure Kanye's mouth is duck taped before the show starts!

I Like Twilight

okay, so i'm a huge TWILIGHT fan, i've read all the books, can't wait till the new movie comes out. However, there are two things i can't understand:

1. Why do people hate Twilight?
2. Why do people hate Kristen Stewart?

these questions arise tonight, because i just saw that movie "Adventureland", and she was friggin wonderful in that movie. so, i conducted research to try and figure out some answers. These are my findings:

VS.

1. People hate Twilight for the same reasons they hated Harry Potter: it originally started out as an idea for a teen romance novel and evolved into a phenomenon that overshadowed Star Trek, Star Wars, and other "serious" fiction... according to themselves. The truth is that some can't fathom that other people would rather fuck Emmet Cullen than Han Solo or Captain Kirk. What pisses me off is that most people who hate on this series haven't read a lick of the novels; they base their judgement off of the damn movie. let me explain something: the movie is not a complete and proper interpretation of the book. you wanna rag on someone? call Catherine Hardwicke's house. she directed that shit.

2. As the old saying goes: "No one can portray a character as well as the person you had in mind." Okay, I made that up. But the crazy part is that it's the truth. I'm an avid reader, and i know that when i read a book, i have a face in mind for every character. For some people, Kristen Stewart was not their Bella Swan. I respect that opinion. I, on the other hand, feel that she portrayed Bella perfectly. Bella is awkward, a loner at heart, and un-jaded by today;s music, movies, etc.. Kristen Stewart is awkward, a loner at heart....you get my point. Kristen is an exact replica of Bella Swan, to me, respect my opinion. I just don't like when people say shit like "She's a terrible actress...PERIOD." or "they could have gotten anyone else. ANYONE ELSE BUT HER!" and i don't think that's fair. Also, have you seen Robert Pattinson? No matter WHO they would have picked to play Bella, no one would have ever been good enough. so STOP HATING ON HER. it's sad.

besides that, i'm excited for the upcoming "New Moon" flick. i'll be first in line....on a saturday....around 6pm....okay, whenever i get around to it. The point is, i'll be there opening weekend... hopefully.

Drake! NOOOOO!

So, apparently my hubby-in-my-head Drake hurt himself, again!

While performing with Lil Wayne, he was skipping around too much for someone who recently tore his ACL... and SPLAT! he trips and falls...and doesnt get up....for at least 30 seconds.

How embarassing!

Luckily, some people from backstage didn't decide to sit there with their thumbs up their ass, and helped poor Drakey-Poo offstage. Then, Wayne takes it upon himself to make a joke, saying that he should get extra insurance. Ha.

Here's the video. Enjoy.

Music Review: BLACKsummers'night

yay.

IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME!!!

I don't know what hole Maxwell was living under, but I'm damn glad he left it to grace us again with his talent, for it was truly missed. I'm happy to announce that Maxie is OFFICIALLY BACK with this new album!

BLACKsummers'night I believe is the first of 3 new albums coming from Maxie, the second being blackSUMMERS'night (schecduled for release on 2010), and blacksummers'NIGHT (scheduled for 2011). Interesting concept, huh? I love this album, it's the old Maxwell, but with a new element, something i can't quite point out. Age, perhaps? Whatever it is, it made this album stand out from the others. My favorites are of course Pretty Wings (who DOESN'T like this one?), Bad Habit, Cold, and Fist Full of Tears. It's also full of great instrumental segments, you can tell he put some time into this one. And why shouldn't he have....he practically dropped off the face of the earth for 7 years!

Bottom line: if you don't have it, go get it! Enjoy him while he's here, before he pulls another Houdini.

My technology woes

GRRRR i hate people who steal dumb shit!
*sigh*

this used to be my cell phone (Blackberry 8830).... that is until some jack-off stole it from the movie theater last weekend.

UGH i'm so pissed! honestly, who steal cell phones anymore?????

my phone wasn't the best phone ever. it had no camera, it was too big, and it kept erasing stuff, like important text messages and emails. BUT, nonetheless, it was MY phone. MINE! and for someone to just swipe it for no damn reason just plain sucks. i know it's a blackberry, but damn, it was a beat-up, old, no camera having blackberry! that's why i figured no one would steal it! oh, how wrong i was!

this normally wouldn't upset me, i've broken and lost countless amounts of phones. i had insurance that would require a$50 deductable. the only reason why i'm soooo cheesed off, is because they raised my insurance to $100.....because it's a blackberry. COME ON! i argued with the obviously outsourced sprint customer representative that i only had to pay $50 with my other phone when it got water damage, and it was the same model! she replied that they raised the deductable earlier this year....

BULL CRAP!

so rather than pay $100 to get the same crappy blackberry (yes, there are crappy models out there!) i opted to pay 100 more for an upgrade to a newer model....one with a camera (Blackberry Tour).

this will do....for now....but i still have to wait a week or so to get it. argh!!!! all this unecessary drama, if only that a-hole didn't stal my phone!!! and i was soooo saving to get this hot fiyah pink faux croc skin Sony VAIO laptop! now i have to wait an extra 3 weeks for that shit! and it's a limited edition!!!!!

isn't it prettyful???

*sigh* i just have to keep praying that everything will turn out ok....

A big fat FAIL

So, I'm watching who wants to be a millionaire while at work (wishful thinking I guess). So apparently this season features couples as contestants. Interesting.

Right now is a couple who looks like they spend more time on a tanning bed then in a library.

So there are some pretty easy questions being thrown their way. Then they get this:

"It hurts to get shot" was an entry in the no-nonsense diary of which president?

A. The Ford Diaries
B. The Regan Diaries
C. The Carter Diaries
D. The Nixon Diaries

So, to some, this may be considered hard. But to me, its simple with one eliminating factor: only one of these presidents got shot - Regan.

But these geniuses had their own agenda. They used the "ask the audience" lifeline, wasting it on a $2,000 question.

Two questions later, they get a really hard one (seriously), asking what a bridal trousseau was. Some of the choices were:

A. ?
B. Photos
C. Clothing
D. ?

I don't know diddly squat about bridal traditions, so I guessed the right answer. The couple chose to use not one, but two lifelines. All I could think of was "if only the kept that ask a audience, they would have been ok". They chose to "ask the expert" (who didn't know the answer) and "phone a friend" (one of the guy's drinking buddies who probably couldn't distinguish a "tool" from "tulle") and of course he had no idea. The answer turned out to be C. go figure.

So in the end, they lost the game, but went home with $25,000, so they really didn't lose per-se. I wish I could lose with 25 grand.

Michael Jackson's Memorial

*sigh*

that was alot to handle. i'm gonna be honest, i broke down and cried more times than i can count on one hand. at first, i couldn't for the life of me understand why i was crying.

then it hit me: i hadn't accepted that MJ had passed on yet.

i mean, of course i acknowledged it verbally, but for some reason, my brain hadn't really processed it yet. seeing his gold-plated coffin amongst those beautiful floral arrangements struck a serious chord in me.

some of the performances and speeches contributed to my blubbering as well. now, everyone's speech (well, almost) were special in their own way. however, my favorites were brooke shields, paris jackson, and marlon jackson. berry gordy's was waaay too long.

as for performances, stevie wonder gets the #1 spot, hands down. his performance of "never dreamed you'd leave in summer" and "they won't go when i go" moved me to straight up crocodile tears. usher too, he kept it together till the very end with "gone too soon".

at the very bottom unexpectantly was mimi herself, mariah carey, performing "i'll be there". i mean, f all songs, this should have been easiest for her to break down, especially since she covered it on an album!. i swear, if it werent for trey lorenz, that performance would have been a disaster.

there was one thing i was glad of: i had heard yesterday that the kids were supposed to be wearing masks to the service. that would have just been too much. im glad the world got to officially see these kids, and that they no longer have to hide for protection. they have their father protecting him with their spirit.
